The community is well served by regional facilities and open space, with Maungakiek­ie-One Tree Hill (1), Maungarei-Mt Wellington (2), Mutukaroa-Hamlins Hill (3) and Panmure Basin (4). It also has large retail areas: Sylvia Park, Onehunga and Panmure. The board is home to Mt Smart Stadium and the industrial areas of Southdown, Westfield, and Mt Wellington. This area is an employment hub for manufactur­ing, bulk storage and distributi­on. The Tāmaki Transforma­tion project is a key initiative in the area. At this election, the ward has inherited Ellerslie (5) and the eastern half of St Johns (6).
