Two motorcyclists died in a crash yesterday evening in Christchurch.

Earlier in the afternoon a cyclist died in a crash in Horowhenua.

“Police can confirm that the two motorcyclists involved in a crash this evening on Dyers Pass Road, Christchurch, both died at the scene,” a police spokesperson said last night.

“The serious crash unit was advised and police will be investigating the circumstances of the crash.”

It’s been an ill-fated weekend for motorcyclists in the South Island.

There have been four motorcycle deaths in three accidents.

Twenty-five-year-old Nelson man Caleb Neho, also known as Caleb Wikaira, died of his injuries overnight on Saturday after a crash that evening involving a motorcycle and a car in Nelson.

Police and ambulance were notified of the crash, which happened on St Vincent St between Beccles Lane and Northesk St, at 5.45pm on Saturday, police said.

Another motorcycle rider died after crashing near Timaru on Saturday morning.

Police confirmed they were called to the scene around 7.50am.

The motorcyclist died after crashing through a fence about 6km north of Timaru on Rosewill Valley Rd.

Meanwhile, State Highway 1 was closed temporarily yesterday following a fatal crash involving a cyclist in Horowhenua.

Police late last night confirmed the cyclist died at the scene after a crash between a vehicle and a bicycle south of Manakau township about 3.30pm.

The crash closed SH1 and diversions were put in place.

Police attended the crash, and inquiries are continuing.
