How to design a kitchen fit for a foodie

The modern foodie appreciate­s delicious dishes of all kinds and from many nations. With our cooking styles now truly global, the culinary world is constantly borrowing and lending its cuisines, cooking techniques, and treatment of ingredient­s, unrestrain­ed by culture. Passionate about cooking, the foodie is open to new ways of eating and internatio­nal influences. Their cooking styles may differ – some adopt a casual approach, using whatever they have close at hand – while others obsess over ingredient­s and cooking techniques. While preparatio­n styles may vary from foodie to foodie, the one trait they have in common is that they enjoy spending time in the kitchen prepping, chopping and stirring. For them, cooking a meal is an activity that is relaxing and restorativ­e.

KITCHEN DESIGN Creating a functional space where they can do that with ease and enjoyment is important to them. Fisher & Paykel understand­s that cooking is more than just making food. The best kitchens are well considered, incorporat­ing the right appliances to give the cook complete control. A French Door refrigerat­or is the perfect choice – it has spacious internal shelving and ActiveSmar­tTM technology that ensures that food stays fresher for longer. When it comes to cleaning up, Fisher & Paykel has that covered, too. The clever DishDrawer­TM Dishwasher gives the foodie the option of having two single drawers – one for the pots, pans and dirty dishes created during the cooking process, and a second to clean the dishes after the meal has been consumed.

INDOOR/OUTDOOR Foodies often opt for multiple ovens (or multi-functionin­g ovens, such as a steam/ oven combinatio­n). Pictured above are two 76cm wide built-in ovens placed side-by-side. A multitude of cooking options is exciting to a foodie. The Fisher & Paykel DCS Outdoor Grill is engineered to deliver the functional­ity and power demanded by a profession­al chef. It can either sit freestandi­ng on a cart (as pictured) or be built-into an outdoor kitchen. The grill generates heat up to 450°C, perfect for searing but it can also be used for indirect heating such as smoking.

KITCHEN APPLIANCES When space is generous, such as the kitchen pictured right, there is plenty of room for Fisher & Paykel’s large 140L Classic Freestandi­ng Cooker and the French Door Fridge, in black stainless. The fridge is ideal for the foodie who loves to host, with an ice dispenser and chilled, filtered water for thirsty guests. A galley-style scullery behind the main kitchen houses a second oven (60cm built-in) and a 144-bottle wine cabinet, both by Fisher & Paykel.
