Warriors suffer twin injury blow

-

The New Zealand Warriors have lost first-choice prop Leeson Ah Mau and loose forward Jazz Tevaga to injury ahead of their NRL return.

Ah Mau is set to be out for four months after scans confirmed the 30-year-old has a ruptured pectoral picked up training in Tamworth on Friday.

Ah Mau will stay in Australia for surgery later this week before returning to New Zealand.

One of the club's most durable players, Ah Mau hadn't missed a game since returning home last season. The Kiwi international was the only player to appear in all 24 Warriors games last season and also started the first two this year against Newcastle and Canberra.

Tevaga, meanwhile, suffered a knee injury in training on Saturday, sidelining him indefinitely, with scans and further assessment needed to establish the extent of the injury.

The injuries to Ah Mau and Tevaga mean four of the club’s middle forwards are now out of action, with props Bunty Afoa and Jackson Frei in Auckland recovering from ACL surgery. Centre Taane Milne has also just had an ACL operation.

The Warriors, set to move to Gosford this week to train at Central Coast Stadium, will restart their season on May 30, with the NRL releasing the draw for the next two rounds of the rescheduled campaign.

The Warriors face the St George Illawarra Dragons at 5pm next Saturday, before playing the Penrith Panthers at 8pm on Friday, June 5.

Venues for the matches will be confirmed early this week.
