Letters to the Travel Editor

-

In the dog house . . .

I have just read Roger Glynan’s Letter to the Travel Editor ( Travel, June 30), and often wonder why no one ever writes about travelling with a dog. I’ve spoken with lots of others who would love to know how to access dog-friendly places to stay. Roger, thank you for asking. Is it possible while we all have NZ holidays in mind Travel could look into this? — Karol

In response to Roger Glynan’s letter about dog-friendly holiday accommodation, has he considered house-sitters instead of putting his dog in kennels? When we travel, we use house-sitters (there are several websites available). You can check out reviews of sitters before you choose who would be most suitable. For free accommodation they will “sit” your house and pets. I highly recommend them and the pets just love all the extra attention they get.

I read the letter published today about travelling with pets. There is a website petscancometoo.co.nz that lists holiday accommodation that accept pets, which your readers may find useful.

Reading your article today, I thought I should bring to your attention that we have lots of dog-friendly holiday homes available at Waiheke Holiday Homes. We also have a whole page on our website dedicated to Dog Friendly Waiheke Island — where to go and things to do, walks, beaches, wineries and cafes where your four-legged friend is also welcome. There’s heaps of information there that I hope could be helpful to you and your readers.

And the bonus is that most of these holiday homes are also giving the third night totally free of charge until December, even during the school holidays.
