A CELEBRATION WELL BEYOND FASHION

-

Events like Afterpay Australian Fashion Week serve as a platform for designers to showcase their talent, creativity and cultural significance. The recently concluded AAFW not only displayed a captivating array of designer collections from around the region but paid homage to Australian designers through the Afterpay closing show in collaboration with Thread Together and #WeWearAustralian.

Bringing together over 80 designers, including P.E. Nation, Veronika Maine, MJ Bale, Cue and more. The Afterpay x #WeWearAustralian multi-brand event closed out AAFW with a plethora of different designs that were influenced by confidence and individuality, embracing inclusivity, collaboration and reflection on culture.

Bringing together over 80 designers, including

P.E. Nation, Veronika Maine, MJ Bale, Cue and more, the initiative promoted and supported the local fashion industry, emphasising its unique designs, sustainable practices and rich heritage. The uniquely immersive show also witnessed the launch of the reCOUTURE initiative as part of this year’s Afterpay x #WeWearAustralian multi brand AAFW show in collaboration with clothing community and charity Thread Together. The project reimagined mens’ suits, recycling and repurposing the material of a declining fashion category as seen by Thread Together into bespoke couture runway statement pieces.

Renowned designers including Ginger & Smart, Bianca Spender, ESSE Studio, Mariam Seddiq and Jordan Gogos got behind the initiative, creating one-of-kind reCOUTURE garments with the initiative shining a specific light on sustainability and clothing waste, which currently sits at 227,000 tonnes of textiles going to landfill each year according to the Australian Fashion Council.

You can shop the #WeWearAustralian x Afterpay Runway which debuted at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week at showroom-x.com. In further support of Thread Together, Afterpay has donated a further $200,000 AUD to the charity to support it on its mission to stop excess clothing stock from going to landfill.
