Jameson’s rich run of recent form rewarded

There was a title and four other top five finishes from Northland juniors at the New Zealand Junior Age Group Championsh­ips earlier this month at the North Shore Squash Club.

The event saw 25 Northland players competing.

Top seeded Freddie Jameson won the under 13 boys’ title without dropping a set on his way to the final and proved too strong for Christophe­r Hubbard of Canterbury in the final, winning in a stylish three sets.

It was a great result to cap what has been a very successful year for Jameson with both North and South Island age group titles as well as gold medals at the AIMS Games.

Annmarie Holst had a great tournament finsihing third from sixth seed in the under 19 girls, beating the third seed and reaching the semifinals before winning her 3rdplace playoff against Rhianne Taipa from Eastern.

Hayley Rhodes placed third (from fourth seed) playing determined squash to beat third-seeded Aria Bannister from Central in four games.

Tane Traill did extremely well to reach the semifinals of the under 11 boys, beating fellow Northlande­r Ollie Maunder in the quarter-finals and ended up taking fourth.

Riley-Jack Vette-Blomquist kept his seeding of fifth in the under 17 boys with another tough tussle against Wellington’s Kobe Fleming in the quarter-finals to put him into the 5-8 playoffs.

Anna Moselen had a strong tournament in the under 17 girls, placing ninth from 14th seed, with Luca Smith also jumping up the seedings from 24th seed and placing 19th/20th.

In the teams event, both the boys and girls teams were seeded sixth, with the Northland girls keeping their seeding of sixth and the boys having a win on the last day to place seventh.
