Move workers up queue for vaccine
I am with Catherine when she states other workers before healthy retirees. I am retired and more than happy for ordinary workers to receive Covid vaccinations before me. These people need to work to feed their families and will be bearing the costs of Covid for many years to come.
Spray dissent
Many “NO SPRAY” signs have been erected recently in
Rawene by residents in response to the short notice spraying schedule given by Far North District Council in January.
Like other residents in the Far North, people are frustrated at waiting for the Far North District Council to catch up with the more enlightened countries of the world, to stop repeatedly exposing communities, landscapes, and waterways to spraying with toxic sprays.
Wha¯ nau are fed up with unresolved roadside spraying issues despite working with Council since 2016.
Rawene wha¯ nau are working to their own community plan, a key priority is to discourage the use of biocide sprays in built, modified and natural environments in our areas of interest. “Encouraging the control of weeds, pests using methods that are environmentally friendly and humane . . . ensure soil ecosystems and soil integrity are enhanced, by discouraging use of all types of biocides, encouraging regenerative practices and establishing plants that protect/ enhance soil”.
Council has been presented with a proposal to establish an alternative method of roadside and footpath / public space management in Rawene and across the district.
Given that Japan has recently rejected NZ honey on the basis of containing only traces of glyphosate, it is only reasonable to ask environmental regulatory authorities: “What do the Japanese know that we don’t?” Or are they relying on safety data provided by the very industry that is making billions of dollars (and paying out billions in lawsuits) through selling their products?
