Rep clash

The Far North beat The Bay of Islands to claim the inaugural Northland Challenge Cup at Waipapakauri Hotel on Sunday, June 24.

The event featured teams format consisting of two ladies and six men per team with 24 total points on offer.

The Far North started well winning the first seven doubles games only for the Bay to respond by grabbing a couple of games with John Hereora hitting three 180s before the hosting association reps began to nail their doubles while Jo Steed threw a 121 finish.

At the end of the doubles the Far North had a 12-4 lead. With 8 points from the singles on offer the Bay could only, at best, hope for a draw which would in turn lead to a 1001 team game decider.

The Far North crew had other ideas, winning all eight singles to take out Challenge Cup by a very convincing final margin of 20-4. Both teams thanked the Waipapakauri Hotel staff, the supporters and chalkers who attended.
