A warm home is a healthier home
A lot of the moisture in a house comes from the shower, which can be frustrating (fogged mirrors) and, in the long run, expensive.
A warm, dry warm house is also a healthier house, as damp surfaces are the perfect place for fungus and bacteria to grow. Showerdome® solves all those problems by controlling steam and reducing condensation. Showerdome® is a clear acrylic dome that simply attaches to the top of the shower cubicle to prevent steam forming in the bathroom.
It serves as a barrier between warm, moist air and cold air, which means no steam.
Mould and mildew are caused by humidity, and, beyond the strong smell and unpleasant aesthetics, can cause a range of allergies, eczema, inflammations and respiratory discomfort.
The Ministry of Health identifies mould and dust mites as two of the most common causes of allergies, and both can result from moisture and dampness.
According to the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA), the average shower releases 1.5 litres of moisture into the air. In a home of four people, that’s six litres being released into the air daily. The EECA recommends putting a shower cubicles to dampness.
Falls on damp, slippery bathroom floors are also among the leading causes of accidents at home.
Meanwhile University of Waikato research shows that, used correctly, a Showerdome® can pay for itself within two years. Independent tests conducted over eight months, to take into account both summer and winter temperatures, also showed it to be successful at lowering humidity and sustaining air temperatures in the bathroom.
The study estimated that heating a bathroom for half an hour per day with a 2.4kw electric heater costs around $100 a year, while using a 0.15kw heated towel rail for 12 hours per day costs around $156 a year. Showerdome® also makes mirror demisters and extractor fans redundant, all of which adds up to a potential saving of $250 a year in energy costs alone. lid on
