-

The following are the results of Far North relevance from round 2 of the Stafford Choat Cup and round 1 of the Stafford Choat Bowl knockout tournaments on Saturday, and women’s premier division league games on Sunday.

Note, NMP, NM1, NM2, NM3 and NWP denotes the team is contesting either of the Northland premier, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and women’s premier division titles respectively.

KAITAIA. In Northland women’s premier division football on Sunday, Kaitaia lost 5-0 (HT 1-0) away to Kerikeri Fairview at Waipapa. Kerikeri coach Eric Hazelden proved gracious in victory.

“Awesome game played in very, very good spirits.” Goals by Arya Zale 2, Freda Blaikie, Mikaela Moselen and Paige Corbett while standout was French Canadian Christine Ouellette at right back. Kaitaia manager Darlene Baldwin said the visitors fought hard throughout the 90 minutes but were finally overwhelmed by a more composed team. POTD was defender Amelie Jennings who had the speed and determination to hold out the opposition which made a big difference to the scoreline.

Only one of the two Kaitaia men’s teams were in action on Saturday with Kaitaia NM3 claiming a 2nd Div scalp by beating Tikipunga Ryco 6-1 in round 1 of the Stafford Choat Bowl at Tikipunga. That included a hat-trick for Marinus Nordentoft (also named POTD and playing alongside father, Kristian, in the pair’s final game before the family returns to Denmark), a brace for Chilean Gabriel Silva and one for Nathaniel Morris.

Kaitaia NM1 had already advanced to round 2 of the bowl thanks to a default from the Tikipunga Kerala Tuskers NM3 which, at least, was notified well in advance.

KAWAKAWA. Bay Cosmos NM2 were hammered 7-0 by 2nd Div stablemates Kerikeri Siteworx in the Bay derby from round 1 of the Choat Bowl at Kawakawa. Cosmos finished with only 10 after a player limped off with a potential season ending injury while coach John Doevendans felt the scoreline was a tad misleading.

“It wasn’t a one-sided match at all. Good game to watch right through. They scored their goals, we didn’t, but our guys were very competitive, just [not] in the opposition third . . . those [Cosmos] guys worked flat out right to the end. I commend them . . . never put their heads down or got upset.” Doevendans gave the POTD award to the whole team.

The Cosmos women did not travel to play Central Brown on Sunday with the homeside involved in some cup fixture.

KERIKERI. In women’s football on Sunday, Kerikeri came from behind to win 2-1 away over Kamo and stay top of the NWP standings thanks to an Emily West equaliser, a long range matchwinning strike by Tara Jackson and a POTD effort from centre back Zoe Horrell.

There was no result to hand from the NMP league game between Kerikeri Bay Builders and FC Whanga¯rei in Whanga¯rei; the club men’s second team, Kerikeri Reserves NM1, were not in action having withdrawn from the Stafford Choat; while the third team won 7-0 away to Cosmos (see above).

KAIKOHE. Kaikohe Phoenix NM1 were eliminated from round 2 of the Stafford Choat Cup by 1st Div stablemates Tikipunga Pet Essentials at Tikipunga. Final score was 3-1 (HT 2-1) with winger Sam Cameron the standout and striker Paddy Bohane with the visitors’ sole goal. Kaikohe AFC Scorpions NM3 were given a bye in round 1 of the Choat Bowl.

PAIHIA. Paihia NM3 lost 11-0 away to Kamo Whanga¯rei Aluminium NM2, a day to forget with the visitors, who were also handed four yellow cards, utting in a complaint about the referee, Dan Owen’s effort. Standout was Aubrey Harrison.

KAEO. Kaeo Inter took down 1st Divvers Kamo Reserves 2-1 at Kamo to progress to round 3 of the Choat Cup.
