Dormer makes provincial side

Brett Dormer is the sole Far North player in the Northland Masters team which contests the Freyberg Masters interprovincial title at Taupo¯ next week.

The team named earlier this month is No.1 Saali Herewini (Sherwood Park GC), No.2 Brett Dormer (Ahipara), No.3 Peter Bone (Northland GC), No.4 Nathan Jacobi (Waipu GC) and No.5 Scott Wilson (Waipu GC). The team manager, Grant Campbell, hails from Waitangi.

The prestigious Golf New Zealand tournament will be contested from Monday to Friday, November 12-16, by teams representing provinces throughout the country.

Golf Northland’s Vaughan Witten said the Freyberg Masters was one of the biggest tournaments of the year on the national masters calendar, noted Northland won the event in Waitangi earlier this decade, and felt this year’s line up had the potential to do very well this time round.

The players were selected from their performances at various events around the area which doubled as an “extensive trialling” process, Witten said.

“And they’ve practised their guts out [in recent weeks] I’m sure,” he said.

Northland travel to Taupo¯ this Sunday and will play Canterbury on Monday, Otago and Aorangi on Tuesday, Tasman on Wednesday, holders Auckland and Taranaki on Thursday, and Hawke’s Bay and North Harbour on day five, Friday.
