Not a drug-free world

- Continued on A8

Scientology has been accused of being the front operation behind the “no” campaign on cannabis. We read that “Drug Free Aotearoa” was established in 2012 by a Taranaki Scientologist.

To those who think we would have a Utopia with a drug-free world, we recommend they do not drink tea, coffee, cocoa or alcohol. We would suggest they also do not have anaesthetic when having a tooth pulled or an appendectomy, if they are sincere. What constitutes a drugfree world? No pain relief? No operations? No aspirin, paracetamol or metformin? Historically we know people swallowed whisky before an operation, to be able to bear the pain.

So where does cannabis come in this scenario? Raw in your smoothies

or juices, it is a superfood! Being capable of causing apoptosis (cell death) of cancer cells, easing glaucoma pressure staving off blindness, eliminating epileptic fits, are amongst the 100-plus listed uses in the US patent, as well as now being used in the US to stop addictions. However, when heated, THCA is converted to THC, which may be described as a drug.

It would not be sensible to ban nutmeg from the pantry or apples, grapes or barley because they may be processed into a drug, yet prohibitionists want to continue their war on drugs, now known as the war on people, with continued cannabis prohibition.

We believe the whole concept of a drug-free world is fantasy.

Common sense must prevail. In 2020 we have much better access to the truth, and must not continue to be brainwashed with 1970s hysteria resulting in cannabis prohibition. For our health’s sake we say, free the plant.
