Hullabaloo for the school holidays

-

The Hullabaloo Children’s Arts Festival is heading to the Far North next month with a fun-packed programme of silliness and laughter. The festival is described as for kids and the young-at-heart, dancing compulsory, giggling unavoidable.

The festival will run from October 5-25, featuring some of New Zealand’s most popular children’s and family entertainers including Anika Moa, Captain Festus McBoyle and Chris Sanders, of Angel Star. There will be puppet shows from The Magic Playhouse, theatre productions and outdoor movies on the biggest screen in the land.

Dates and venues include the Waitaha Events Centre at Waitangi (October 5-7), Kaikohe’s Pioneer Village (6-7), the Whare Karakia o

Manako, Kerikeri (7), Te Ahu, in Kaitaia (8), the Totara North Hall (8), and Kainui Road Vineyard, in

Kerikeri (24-25).

Festival director Jackie Sanders said the festival would be an opportunity for families to have some fun together.

“Given the difficult year we have all had, we wanted to create something special for kids. It is important to bring these experiences to regions that often miss out, so we are excited that the very first festival will be in the Far North,” she said.

Hullabaloo would have its hub in

Waitangi, at the Waitaha Events Centre, but it was also going out on the road.

“Our aim is to encourage the domestic family market to make Northland the destination of choice during the school holidays and Labour Weekend,” she added.

“It has been a tough time for local tourism, as well as our event industry. There are hundreds of things for families to see and do in Northland, and we will have shows all around the region and at venues such as the Pioneer Village, giving people a chance to explore.”
