Arrows come home with a wet sail

The Ahipara Arrows hosted Awanui DWI last week, and there wasn’t much in it until late in the day. Leon Matthews starred for the Arrows, topscoring and throwing a match-highest finish of 80, while Willie Ihimaera hit 12 ton-plus scores and Ted Watts hit a 180 for DWI . Awanui led 7-6 until the Arrows reeled off the last three legs to take the match 9-7.

The Aces hosted RSA Red, local Robbie Matthews hitting a 180 and the top finish of 95.

The Reds found the going tough, although Tim Warneford notched up a couple of good wins, the Aces winning 13-3.

RSA Kauri took on the Collards Raiders, with 49 ton-plus scores registered.

Raiders Derek Ashley and Fergie Raumati each hit a 180, Fergie also scoring the highest match finish of 104. Tapihana Rollo and Cam Thomas led the scoring for Kauri. It was another close match, the Raiders just getting ahead at the end to win 9-7.

RSA Totara were at home to the Tuatua Tavern, whose Dan Job led their scoring. Graham Maheno hit a 180, while Tuatua teammate Ben Bowmar hit a match-highest finish of 102.

Another close match, locked at 7-all until Totara won the last two games and take it 9-7.

The Nomads hosted XL Mussel Rock in a Division 1 clash that was decided by a team game. No fewer than 125 ton-plus scores, including five 180s, were thrown, Chris Silich registerin­g two of them, with one apiece for Ian Webb, Harry and David Tepania. Harry threw 22 ton-plus scores, and Chris Hilton-Jones hit the match-highest finish of 78.

XL were looking good, leading 8-6, until the Nomads took the last two games to level the match at 8-all. The team game decider was close, XL just getting the win 9-8.

The Houhora Chiefs hosted Mussel Rock, who were on top of their game, registerin­g 83 ton-plus scores, including four 180s, two for Jaymie Hilton-Jones and one each for Jeff Hobson and Denny Watling. Robert Bradley hit a match-highest finish of 111, and led the Chiefs’ scoring, but Mussel Rock were too sharp on the night, winning 16-0.

Waipapakau­ri had home advantage against 90 Mile Collards, the evening seeing 104 ton-plus scores, Brian Steed throwing 23 of them, including three 180s and the match-highest finish of 120. Steve Doak led the 90 Mile scoring, with Chris Bell getting a good win, but Waipapakau­ri took their chances and the match, 10-6.

Mussel Rock vs XL Mussel, RSA Nomads vs Waipapakau­ri, 90 Mile Collards vs Chiefs, Tuatua Tavern vs RSA Red, RSA Totara vs Coasters, Warriors vs Aces, Raiders vs DWI, RSA Kauri vs Arrows.

The 2020 Far North Darts Associatio­n singles will be played at the Far North (Kaitaia) RSA on Friday October 2. Players must be registered by 6.30pm.
