No-grudge Knox eyeing return to Italy

-

AMANDA KNOX, who has been exonerated by Italy’s highest court of the 2007 murder of British student Meredith Kercher in Perugia, is planning to return to Italy and write a book about the country’s legal system, according to her lawyer.

Speaking after the verdict that cleared Knox and her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, her lawyer, Carlo Dalla Vedova, said Knox would like to return ‘‘which she still loves’’.

‘‘She always says she wants to come back.

‘‘She never had any [feelings of] revenge about what happened. Certainly she will be back . . . she always liked Italy, that’s why she came here.’’

The decision by the Court of Cassation to halt the proceedings against Knox and Sollecito stunned observers who had expected the judges to order a

Italy retrial. The verdict cannot be appealed.

The murdered girl’s mother, Arline Kercher, said she was shocked.

‘‘They have been convicted twice so it’s a bit odd it should change now,’’ she said.

Knox said later she’s ‘‘so grateful to have my life back’’.

She spoke briefly to reporters gathered outside the Seattle home of her mother, Edda Mellas.

‘‘Right now I’m still absorbing what all this means and what comes to mind is my gratitude for the life that’s been given to me,’’ she said.

Knox, 27, said she was thankful ‘‘for the justice I’ve received and for the support I’ve had from everyone – from my family, from my friends, to strangers . . . I’m so grateful to have my life back’’.
