‘‘Sinks are under mounted or hidden and kitchen mixers become a boiling water unit.

‘‘Cabinetry is now a lot of glass, ceramic and concrete.

‘‘There are lots of timber veneers using beautiful timbers and bench tops are boutique granite or Quartzsite from Brazil.

‘‘The kitchen in the competition final has a lot of glass cabinetry and plenty of reflected light against an oak floor and Tom Dixon pendant lights.’’

It’s a world Hannah relishes. This week he is heading to Auckland to look at the latest options in Corian sinks, where almost any sink shape can be created.

He loves to personally select Quartzsite for benchtops with stunning colours.

‘‘The new integrated fridges are touch sensitive, so, no handles. And the cabinetry is E-touch, so with the slightest touch cabinetry opens into the room.

‘‘I am often asked what comes first, form or function? I’ll sacrifice form for function any day. If a kitchen doesn’t function well people won’t enjoy cooking in it.

‘‘I design a kitchen to last 20 to 25 years and I want my clients to enjoy every day they’re in that kitchen.’’
