Tostee’s chequered past revealed

- STAFF REPORTER

In the aftermath of Gable Tostee’s acquittal of the murder or manslaughter of Lower Hutt woman Warriena Wright, it has been revealed that the Gold Coast carpet layer has previously spent time in jail, and has been banned from a local bar for ‘‘creeping out’’ women.

Tostee was found not guilty in the Brisbane Supreme Court on Thursday of the murder or manslaughter of his Tinder date Wright, who fell to her death from the balcony of his 14th storey apartment in August 2014.

Australian media have now revealed Tostee’s playboy ways, and his admission to police that he engaged in dangerous behaviour while drunk, according to News.com.au.

On social media - posting on a bodybuilding site under the alias GT Tostee previously told the story of a taking a young woman back to the same apartment Wright fell from, and lifting her up and taking her out on to the balcony.

‘‘She’s small so I go to hug and lift her up and take her inside from the balcony but she totally freaks out, mumbles something about getting back to her parents and bolts out the door.

‘‘Deletes me off both Tinder and FB. Maybe I acted too abruptly and snapped her out of her little lust-trance by manhandling her,’’ Tostee posted.

In earlier posts, Tostee had bragged of his sexual exploits, saying he had ‘‘banged two girls tonight’’.

A woman who went on a date with Tostee before he met Wright also came forward to 9News, detailing a date that was her worst ever. The woman said Tostee - who she met through dating app Tinder - was an ‘‘intimidating person’’. ‘‘It was very much belittling, he thought he was the man and I should have been, I guess, a bit more doting on him but that’s not how I was.’’

Before the woman had even finished her drink, Tostee had suggested she go back to his apartment - an offer she declined, she said. He convinced her to walk him home, again suggesting that she come inside. Her second rejection led to him ending the date abruptly.

Before he took to Tinder for his conquests, Tostee had been a regular on the Gold Coast’s party strip, News.com.au

reported. Sin City manager Ty Davidson said he banned Tostee from the bar because he had targeted young women, who then complained he was ‘‘creeping them out’’.

Previous to that he was sentenced to six months in prison following a highspeed chase in New South Wales, and as an 18-year-old, was uncovered as the mastermind behind a scam involving the forgery of 18+ ID cards.

The case took two years to get through court, and the Courier-Mail outlined the impact on Tostee, who in 2006 was 20. He became a recluse, emerging four years later on the bodybuilding website, asking for advice on how to make friends in 2010.

As his confidence grew he spoke of having sex with four women in a week, and it became a habit for him and a friend to go out to meet women, and detail his successes and failures on the forum.
