Monday:

It’s Labour day, but while a number of MPs will be taking the day off, the prime minister will be jetting to India to lead a trade delegation. The fourday trip will encompass trade talks, education announceme­nts and tourism events.

Tuesday:

Social Housing Minister Paula Bennett will be at the opening of the Salvation Army’s first Income Related Rent Subsidy house, in Wellington.

Wednesday:

Prime Minister John Key gets a ceremonial state welcome in India today, before laying a wreath at the Ghandi Memorial and meeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for high-level talks. Key will also meet India’s president and external affairs minister.

Thursday:

The Government Inquiry into Havelock North Drinking Water will hold an initial public hearing at Hastings District Court on Thursday morning. It follows the widespread outbreak of gastroente­ritis in Havelock North in August, with more than 5200 people falling seriously ill.

Friday:

A civic memorial service to remember Helen Kelly as a ‘‘great fighter’’ will be held in Wellington. The union stalwart died of lung cancer in Wellington on Friday morning, aged 52. The service will be held at the Michael Fowler Centre at 1pm. It has been organised by the Council of Trade Unions and Wellington City Council alongside Kelly’s family.
