Ute may hold clue to Tolley’s death
Police have still made no arrests over the killing of Upper Hutt woman Lois Tolley but say a white ute and several other ‘‘items of interest’’ have been identified.
Tolley, of Wallaceville, was killed minutes before midnight on December 9. She was stabbed and shot to death.
‘‘The ute was parked in Ward St early on the morning on December 9, 2016, and was seen leaving the area just before midnight that same day, as well as driving past the scene around the time the killing was occurring,’’ Detective Senior Sergeant Glenn Barnett said.
A beanie and shoe were found near Tolley’s home, and police said yesterday that they hoped members of the public would help identify these items.
A single jandal was also located within the crime scene.
Police have investigated the involvement of one or more women, as well as several men, in the killing. They have repeatedly appealed to the public for information.
At least one of the men in the group that attacked Tolley appeared in her driveway afterwards in a frenzied state, reportedly yelling: ‘‘What have we done?’’
Earlier this month, several Wallaceville locals said they believed the suspects were ‘‘couchsurfing’’ and moving around different towns.
Some voiced concern as weeks passed without any arrests, but others were satisfied that nobody else was at risk because the killing was a targeted one.
A neighbour said the gun involved was a homemade weapon. Investigators have previously said only that it was a shotgun.
Police admitted their descriptions of the four male suspects were still not detailed but asked members of the public to help.
