Kennedy confident at home

Terry Kennedy fancies his chances of a home track victory with Landales Gold on Thursday.

The Wingatui-based horseman is confident the genuine five-yearold will be hard to roll in the Positive Signs Handicap.

‘‘He’s definitely my best runner and he should go close to winning,’’ Kennedy said.

Landales Gold has been in fine touch this preparation with a cheque in each of his four appearances and he was particularly unlucky on the course three runs back when blocked before finishing on well for second.

‘‘He’s very well at the moment and this race will top him off nicely for the Dunedin Gold Cup,’’ Kennedy said. ‘‘I think he’ll be a good chance in that, he stays well.’’

The stable expects to hold a strong hand in the Listed event on February 4 with the last-start Gore Cup winner Princess Brook also heading in the same direction.

‘‘She’s come through Gore well, you wouldn’t even think she’d had a race,’’ Kennedy said.

‘‘She’ll run in the Dunedin Gold Cup and then the Canterbury Gold Cup looks a nice race.

‘‘We’ll be looking for black type for her. Maybe we’ll even have a crack up north.’’

Kennedy also rates the chances of Countess Ruby.

‘‘She’s going along nicely, but unfortunately she’s drawn wide so she will need a bit of luck,’’ he said.
