City of Gold 8.30pm, Wednesday, Rialto

The first food critic to win the Pulitzer Prize, for three decades Jonathan Gold has been reminding Los Angelenos of the ethnic diversity of their city’s culture and cuisine. While he might look like a cross between David Crosby, Bill Bailey and a 1970s Bond villain, the avuncular Gold is a generous, deep thinker, as Laura Gabbert’s entertaining and engrossing 2015 portrait demonstrates time and again. But although there is some mouth-watering street food on display, Gabbert is more interested in taking us inside the world of the food critic.

Kingsman: The Secret Service 8.30pm, Sunday, Three

With its wild villains, wacky gadgets and global conspiracies, this 2014 British action-adventure has the feel of an early James Bond film and writer-director Matthew Vaughn and regular screenwriting partner Jane Goldman play this up to the hilt. But even the Timothy Dalton or Daniel Craig versions of 007 were never this bawdy or bloody, as the claret flows freely. Colin Firth gets to send-up his usually uptight persona, while Samuel L Jackson chews the scenery and young English actress Sophie Cookson almost threatens to steal the show from nominal lead Taron Egerton.
