Top dollar for top views in Kingston
AKINGSTON HOME with amazing views has been auctioned for $280,000 above its rateable value. The property, at 20 Ontario St, had a rateable value of $475,000 and sold for $755,000.
Built in the 1960s, the three-bedroom house was re-roofed two years ago and the kitchen and bathroom had been modernised.
‘‘There were amazing views from virtually every room of this well-presented family home,’’ says Alan Wilson, of Harcourts, who marketed the property with Lynette Kitney.
The 300-square-metre dwelling included an internal-access garage and was on an 813sqm section with off-street parking for two cars in a quiet cul-de-sac. TWO APARTMENTS in a Te Aro development have sold for more than $100,000 above their rateable values.
The Century City units, at 80 Tory St, were listed for only a short time, Charles Lindsay, of the Professionals, says.

Unit 78, a 78sqm apartment, had a rateable value of $360,000 and sold for $470,000.

The property, at 27A The Anchorage, had a rateable value of $840,000.
Marty Ritchie, of Harcourts, says the three-bedroom house, with its three living areas and three bathrooms, offered plenty of space for blended or large families.
‘‘It was in a sought-after location, within walking distance of the school and kindergarten, and set back from the road for total privacy, the last of the sun and stunning water views across the Pauatahanui Inlet to the hills and beyond.’’
The 345sqm house was built in the 1980s on a 1114sqm section and was ripe for refurbishment. A RURAL property located mid-way between Palmerston North and Feilding has been auctioned for $182,500.
The Awahuri home, at 1603 State Highway 3, had a rateable value of $180,000 and was a mortgagee sale.
‘‘It offered country living close to town,’’ Tim Cook, of Harcourts, says of the three-bedroom house that was built in the 1910s.
The 120sqm dwelling was sited forward on a 1012sqm section with off-street parking and plenty of room for children to play.
‘‘You got a real sense of country living, with a rural outlook to the rear, but with the security of neighbours,’’ Cook says.
