TO THE POINT

-

Andrew Little’s foamingly bellicose reaction to Nicky Wagner’s not too smart tweet tells us that he is not yet benefiting from his acting coach’s desperate efforts.

JIM YOUNG, Belmont Everyone asks, ‘‘When will house prices drop to affordable levels in Auckland?’’ Surely the right question is ‘‘When will Auckland wages rise to the level that makes houses affordable?’’ BRIAN BAGGOTT, Paraparaumu After seeing the road layout on the Quays on Sunday morning for the marathon, can someone tell me if there are more road cones or sheep in New Zealand now?

KEVIN PEARMAN, Aro Valley ‘‘All political parties eventually die, choking on their own lies,’’ said Mark Twain. Can we but hope that he will be proved right before the election?

DAVID BARBER, Waikanae A quote attributed to Churchill: ‘‘You can always count on Americans to do the right thing – after they’ve tried everything else.’’ One might say the same for Todd Barclay and the leadership of the National Party.

NORM DREXEL, Havelock North Could the person who turns on the street lights at night, turn them all on? It would be nice to not walk into rubbish bags, holes, wayward teens, the ghost of Mark Blumsky (or possibly the real one), or the tattered remnants of Todd Barclay’s political career. It’s all I ask of you.

Northland SAM KELLY, About 50 years ago John Lennon wrote an extraordinary song called A Day in the Life. The first line begins ‘‘I read the news today. Oh boy.’’ Now I read the news: terrorism, Syria, Manchester, North Korea, Finsbury Park, Donald Trump, Grenfell Tower, London Bridge, climate change. ‘‘Oh boy’’ doesn’t quite do it anymore.

ROD SHAW, Te Horo My question is to Emirates Team New Zealand: Why change things when it’s not broke? We have been speeding along so let’s hope it carries on that way, so bring it on tomorrow, go our flying Kiwis.

GARY STEWART, Foxton Beach
