Five ways to Anti age your hands

-

As we age, our hands are one of the first places to show signs of the years ticking by. Collagen is the building blocks our skin is made up of and when we start to lose it, places like the hands start to show their age. Hope is not lost though - here are our tips to anti-age your hands and give them a youthful makeover.

HAND CREAM

If you don’t already use a hand cream, now is the time to start. Hands are prone to dryness as a result of them constantly being washed and dried throughout the day, not to mention antibacterial gel, which is notorious for drying skin out. Keeping a cream or balm in your car, on your bedside table and on your desk is a must. These will work to hydrate and nourish this delicate area. Clarins Super Restorative hand cream, $82

HAND MASK

Bring a little spa experience into your home with a hand mask. One like this contains marine collagen, which works to boost moisture levels, making hands feel nourished and plump. As well as this, vitamin E, shea butter and plant extracts are cocktailed into the mix to also reverse signs of ageing like pigmentation and crepey skin. Pop these gloves on and let them work their magic. Skin Republic Hand Repair, $9.50

PRP

If you’re after a more permanent option, then some Platelet Rich Plasma injections into the tops of your hands might be an avenue to consider going down. Platelet Rich Plasma uses the healing properties of our own platelets (taken from a small sample of your blood) to stimulate cellular rejuvenation and improve the skin’s texture and elasticity. PRP uses the power of your own platelets and plasma to signal to the body it needs to repair and rejuvenate the skin. Expect to see an improvement in the hydration, thickness, softness and luminosity of the skin. Prices start at $795 for one treatment with a nurse.

SUPPLEMENTS

Adding supplements into your regime that are specifically designed to support your system in creating collagen is another option. A liquid like this contains silica, vitamin C and blood orange, which, when taken daily, helps to boost our body’s ability to produce more collagen - an essential for plump, healthy skin. SPF

One of the best things you can do for your skin is to protect it from the sun, and hands are no exception. Adding a good sunscreen to the tops of your hands while you’re out and about will help to protect them from the UVA (ageing) and UVB (burning) rays. Keep it handy so you can ensure you’re always topped up. Shiseido Future Solution LX Universal Defense, $120 Sarah Simpson
