Beach frontage, views from the South Island to Petone and a house filled with light make this a dream home.

It’s the first time this Eastbourne property has come on the market since it was designed by Eastbourne architect Gus Watt and developed in the late 1980s.

Realtor Kim Slessor said the elderly couple who owned the Nikau St property were reluctantly selling.

The couple’s love of art, architecture and gardening was factored into the design and Slessor said their attention to detail was still obvious.

An outside shed was turned into a large stylish art studio, where the female owner enjoyed weaving.

The ‘‘potting shed’’ was set up for hydroponics with a toilet resembling a classic changing shed. The house has three living spaces, featuring lots of glass that provides panoramic views of the beach and Wellington Harbour.

Slessor said the view from the second-storey main bedroom was one of the best she had experienced.

‘‘I think I am right to say you can see the South Island on a good day and you can see all the way round to Petone.’’

With no road in front of the house, you step out the front door and onto the beach.

Situated on an elevated section, it has a small park on one side and a house set back from the beach on the other. As a result, the house is not overlooked and there is a real sense of privacy.

That is achieved, despite the extensive use of glass, to capture the best views possible.

Slessor said the owners were very particular about selling and insisted on a partial recladding and new carpet before putting it on the market.

As to how much it was likely to sell for, Slessor said it was a unique property and she was confident there would be plenty of interest.

‘‘The price guide is $1.45 millionplus. I have sold quite a few houses on the waterfront and the highest went for $3.8 million.’’

The likely buyer would be a professional couple looking for a beachside retreat or a family with teenagers, who would enjoy the art studio.

With so many attractive features and proximity to a beach, Slessor said it was the sort of property seldom seen in Wellington.

‘‘I hate to use the word unique but it is.

‘‘It is rare to find the wonderful combination of attributes this house has. It has views, location, sunshine and design.’’
