Wellington Firebirds:

-

Hamish Marshall (c), Hamish Bennett, Tom Blundell, Michael Bracewell, Iain McPeake, Stephen Murdoch, Jeetan Patel, Samit Patel, Matt Taylor, Logan van Beek, Anurag Verma, Luke Woodcock.

Near the top of that list will be English import Samit Patel, who averages 26 with the bat at 126, and 26.47 with the ball at a economy rate of just 7.16.

‘‘He’s slotted in well,’’ Edgar said, after the Englishman arrived last week. ‘‘He’ll bat in the top four, we’d like him to score some runs, and then hopefully we get four overs out of him every week.’’

Luke Ronchi will return to Wellington for the fourth round onward, and will bring form from the Bangladeshi Twenty20 league to the Super Smash.

He won’t be taking the gloves, however, with Wellington and Ronchi keen to help push Tom Blundell for New Zealand honours miserly in more than just the test team.

Jeetan Patel will also return to action for Wellington, having taken the Ford Trophy off.

After starting the 2016 season with four straight losses, Edgar said the team has discussed its slow starts. He believes fielding is key, and is one area Wellington have excelled in in recent weeks.

‘‘We lost those first four games by about 9 or 10 runs last year. I think you can save between 10 and 15 in a game just through good fielding, so that’s a real key.

‘‘Once our fielding came right, we started winning games.’’
