Richie who? McCaw snubbed by ESPN

-

A senior ESPN sports writer has revealed his top 20 sports teams and athletes of the last two decades and it’s not pretty reading for All Blacks fans.

Two-time World Cup-winning captain Richie McCaw has been snubbed and the 2015 All Blacks have only just scraped into top 20 sports teams of ESPN sports journalist Peter Keating’s list that was released to coincide with the 20th anniversary issue of ESPN

The Magazine.

McCaw did not even rate a mention in The Dominant 20 – where the criteria was the most formidable, awe-inspiring and downright dominant athletes of the past two decades.

The 2015 All Blacks snuck into The Dominant 20 teams list in 17th spot. Only teams who won world championships were included.

The 2016-17 Golden State Warriors took out top spot but in a shock selection the 2002-03 Australian cricket team took out second place over the 1998 New York Yankees (third), the 2012-13 Chicago Blackhawks (fourth) and the 2016 Chicago Cubs.

The Dominant 20 athletes was predictably topped by Tiger Woods.

McCaw missing the cut would be a shock to most All Blacks fans but it was hardly surprising given global superstars Manny Pacquiao and Tom Brady could only fill places 19 and 20 on the list.

Australian WNBA star Lauren Jackson was an interesting addition at 13, ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo (14), Novak Djokovic (15) and Barry Bonds (17). LeBron James, Peyton Manning, Nascar driver Jimmie Johnson and Roger Federer filled out the top five.
