TO THE POINT

I wonder what happened to the hush part of the hush payment Stormy Daniels is reputed to have been paid by President Donald Trump? Has she broken a legal agreement? Kathleen Kuzmicich

Re the shortage of pickers for kiwifruit, there must be at least 2000 benefIciaries who can fiIl this gap. No work, no dole.

Argentine fire ants. Asian gypsy moth. Queensland fruit fly. Varroa mite. PSA disease. Didymo. Velvet leaf. Pea weevil. And now we have the egregious lack of care by a few in not following the legal requirements to record stock movements. So tracking where mycoplasma bovis might occur is proving to be a headache. Just who is connecting the dots? Biosecurity is just not being taken seriously enough by too many. New Zealanders expect First World living conditions when much of our prosperity depends on products of the land. Is all that we can do now is keep our fingers crossed that foot and mouth doesn’t affect our cloven footed animals?

Light rail, my foot – they are big and cumbersome. Wellington has been there, done that, got rid of the inflexible machines – they were called trams in the 1950s and 60s. Wellington has no room on its narrow and winding streets. Hugo van Stratum, Epuni

It is always a bit of a laugh to see articles with a photograph of happy, smiling ‘‘voters in the latest democratic election’’ in some oneparty state, or in a theocracy like Iran. The candidates in Iran are all selected by the theocracy itself, and every single one of them makes Israel Folau’s beliefs look liberal. But the relativistic progressives in the West seem as determined to give the one a free pass, as they are to beat up on the other at every opportunity.

Teacher insulted pupils (May 11). And you are questioning why there is a teacher shortage. Anyone who has dealt with disobedient children can understand the frustration they cause. If my child had come home and told me what the teacher had called them for being so disobedient I would have made them go back and apologise and ask the teacher to give them some chores to do for being so naughty. What on earth is the world coming to . . . Poor children for not having someone to discipline them.
