Masterton’s Poplars Industrial Park a big hit
COMPANIES KEEN to capitalise on the burgeoning Wairarapa economy can secure up to 30 lots in Masterton’s Poplars Industrial Park.
The 12-hectare industrial subdivision, on Ngaumutawa Rd, is being marketed in four stages and includes 450 metres of prime frontage.
Four lots in the first stage already have sold: lots 1-3 to PlaceMakers and lot 4 to Thistle Building Company, Farman Turkington Forestries and Sparkies Electricians.
The remaining lots range in size from 1650 square metres to 8042sqm (subject to final surveying).
‘‘Poplars is Masterton’s next industrial hub,’’ Bevan Saywell, of Harcourts, says. ‘‘All the lots are completely flat and in a desirable area for easy access on to the bypass to Wellington or further north.’’
He says industrial lots of this quality and size, and in such a strategic location, rarely come up for sale.
‘‘This is one of the only available industrial subdivisions in Masterton.’’
Poplars Industrial Park is 2.5 kilometres from Masterton’s town centre and 1.6km from the railway station.
‘‘It’s been designed for primary and secondary industry,’’ Saywell says.
‘‘All the sections are serviced and the park has high visibility from the road.
‘‘With the Wairarapa economy going from strength to strength, this is the ideal location from which to expand your business.’’
Saywell says Masterton’s industrial development prospects are supported by a strong transport sector and cheaper operational costs than in Wellington.
He believes the appeal of Poplars Industrial Park could encourage businesses based in Wellington and the Hutt Valley to relocate to Masterton.
He says Masterton is undergoing a renaissance.
‘‘It’s enjoying its biggest population upsurge in years and last year was named New Zealand’s Most Beautiful City.’’
According to the Keep New Zealand Beautiful charitable trust: ‘‘Masterton blew away the judges with their wide range of environmental and heritage conservation projects, and the strength of their community engagement, with numerous community groups working hard to make Masterton a safer and more beautiful community.’’
The same group judged nearby Greytown New Zealand’s Most Beautiful Small Town.
Saywell says successful economic development schemes, such as My Masterton and Accelerate Wairarapa, also are contributing to the region’s growth and cites a recent report that shows Masterton’s economy grew by 3.7 per cent in 2017, higher than New Zealand as a whole (3.6 per cent) and higher than the Wellington region (2.5 per cent).
