Gun City has Napier store in its sights

- Marty Sharpe marty.sharpe@stuff.co.nz

A development including a large Gun City store has been approved in Napier.

A land-use consent to expand an existing multi-unit building at Pandora Pond, Ahuriri, was granted by Napier City Council last month.

The application was made by Napier BSM No 8 Ltd, a company within the Big Save furniture group, which presently operates from the existing building on the site.

The proposal is to construct two new buildings on the site and to expand the current car park.

One new building will span 800 square metres. It will house Gun City, described in the application as ‘‘a specialist outdoor retail franchise store that is already a wellestablished New Zealand company’’.

The other building will cover 1000sqm and is expected to house an outdoor sport/clothing and equipment store.

No consultation was required because the application was not considered to be of a scale that would affect adjoining property owners, and the buildings would ‘‘optimise the utility of an underutilised site and represents a land use scenario that strikes an appropriate balance in terms of its sensitivity to its surrounds and avoiding or mitigating effects on adjoining properties’’, the application stated.

Consent was month.

There are presently Gun City stores in Christchurch, Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton and Dunedin.
