Cafe Review Kylie Klein-Nixon Faith and Co

We’d heard... Almost nothing, but it was such a delightful surprise to see a new cafe at the relatively ‘‘dry end’’ of the Hutt’s cafe alley – Jackson St – we had to stop to have a look.

The vibe... Arty, cosmopolitan, design-inspired decor that is comfy and inviting.

We ordered... Everyone has that dish or group of dishes, or style of cooking they adore, but that doesn’t agree with them. For me, it’s anything with cumin in it, so, when I do indulge I want that dish to be worth the suffering.

Faith and Co’s Marsala Eggs ($14), is worth a month of suffering.

Slathered in a rich, heady marsala paste, dotted with cherry tomatoes and rocket-like gems, it’s picturesque and inviting. The favours, while robust are delicate enough to be moreish, rather than overwhelming. And the aroma is an absolute delight for the all the senses.

My brunch companion ordered bacon and eggs on ciabatta ($15.50). Again. She likes what she likes, I guess. And boy, did she like this. I am not sure what cut of bacon it was, but the mound of rashers were some of the thickest and rosiest I’ve seen.

On top of that, the eggs were a pair of perfectly done poaches – yolks runny and smooth, whites firm but not rubbery.

We ordered a slice of the German Apple Cake ($6) to finish. It was sweet, sticky and moist.

If you go… Make sure you’ve got time to chill with one of the fantastic design, art and architecture books on the shelves around the cafe.

The service… Super friendly and welcoming. It feels like a family-run business.
