Cafe Chat Neat Places

Tucked in between Victoria and Willis streets on Chews Lane, Glass is the new spot on the block for those wanting an easy-going yet sophisticated place to enjoy an evening of natural wines and sharing platters.

Opened by Jonathan Brookes (formerly of Whitebait and Paris’ Fish La Boissonnerie), this wine bar and eatery is testament to the time he spent working in a wine cellar in France, where the love for natural wine followed him all the way back to New Zealand.

Serving up local brews by Garage Project and espresso by Peoples Coffee, Glass promises to be both a fine choice for an early morning long black on the run, and a space to enjoy tasty platters and delicious drinks long into the evening.

The menu includes dishes like roast bone marrow with capers, lemon, or roast chicken with cavolo nero and polenta. Plates here are generous and are made to pick over with others, although there’s no guarantee the seasonally fresh menu will stay the same for long. This Friday, Parrotdog Bar in Lyall Bay plays host to Orchestra of Spheres, a group that combines twisting electronic music with ecstatic live shows.

The gig is free and part of Parrotdog Bar’s initiative to attract newcomers to the area, and connect people over a cold beer and some mighty good music. Get your dancing shoes on and head out to Lyall Bay for an evening of fantasy funk between 8pm and 11.50pm. Long-time crafters of quality tarts, slices, macarons and cakes, Louis Sergeant has no problems catering to Wellington’s sweet tooth.

The boutique-style fine French patisserie, run by owner-operator Louis Sergeant himself, has recently moved to 111 Lambton Quay, where customers can dine in or take away.

Perfect for inner-city workers, you can take a seat in front of the colourful display of fresh macarons, order a box of goods online to pick up later, or let your lunches take a little longer than usual with a decadent high tea.
