Growth stars step up to compete

- Anuja Nadkarni

The country’s fastest-growing regional businesses were announced at Deloitte’s annual Fast 50 awards last night.

Events were held across the country yesterday for the Deloitte Fast 50 regional awards, with categories ranging from rising stars to the masters of growth.

Wellington companies were big winners in the Wellington and lower North Island region. Wellington Hospitality won master of growth and Sharesies won the rising star award.

Deloitte Private partner Stephen Nicholas said this year’s regional winners showcased success throughout the country.

‘‘These results clearly demonstrate that there are a diverse range of businesses across New Zealand that are achieving outstanding growth,’’ Nicholas said.

All regional winners will compete for a place on the national Deloitte Fast 50 index in November. The index ranks the top 50 businesses according to their revenue growth over three years.

To enter, a company needs to have been in business for at least three years, with an operating revenue of at least $500,000 over the past three years.

The exceptions to this are the rising star, which requires the company to have been in business for a full year, and the master of growth, which requires revenue of at least $5 million in 2014.

The 50 fastest-growing companies will be unveiled at the Deloitte Festival of Growth on November 14, in Auckland.
