Cocktail has a kimchi kick

- Cafe chat Neat Places neatplaces.co.nz

Soda legend Six Barrel Soda has partnered with six venues around Wellington to bring you its very drinkable event Six by Six. Mr Go’s, Ombra, Charley Noble, Rogue & Vagabond, Pickle & Pie, and The Library have worked with Six Barrel to make some weird and wonderful cocktails that are certain to get tongues wagging.

Details are being released on Six Barrel Sodas social media but, for starters, head along to try Mr Go’s Bloody Mary with kimchi syrup, or the Arc Bloody Maria Martini from Ombra made with syrup from tomatoes cooked in Ombra’s woodfire oven.

New bar Night Flower opens

Wellington’s newest cocktail bar and punch house has opened its doors at Level One, 55 Ghuznee St.

Open from 3pm until late, Tuesday to Sunday, Night Flower is promising to mix some of the tastiest cocktails in the city, in a luxe, softly lit space furnished with velvet chairs.

Tucked away upstairs, Night Flower is the perfect spot to have a few quiet cocktails in the vicinity of bustling Cuba St. Its online presence is fairly low key, so you’ll need to stop by to get the full picture.

Brunch winner

Eva St restaurant Shepherd is opening its doors for Sunday brunch from October 21.

From 10.30am to 8pm the kitchen crew will serve an all-day menu that easily transitions from brunch to an early dinner.

Restaurant manager Chelsea Godinet is spearheading the menu change with expert assistance from head chef and owners Shepherd Elliot and Sean Golding.

Golding even hints that the infamous Goldburger may make a reappearance on the menu but, more importantly, the team plans to keep the ‘‘same kind of attitude towards food they’ve always had’’ – ethical, fresh and excellent.

Excited to give Wellingtonians a ‘‘complementary brunch option’’, the Shepherd team promises that alongside some delicious fare there will also be a chance to dust off any hangovers, hair-of-the-dog style.

Free vegan cheese and wine tasting

Kilbirnie Commonsense is the place to be for all vegans next Wednesday.

The Wellington organic store is hosting a free tasting evening from 7pm to 8.30pm.

You’ll be able to sample a variety of vegan cheese, wine, snacks, and chocolate.

Crop Swap connects community

Do you have excess produce in your garden, jars of sauce in your cupboard, or baked goods on your shelves?

Bring it all down to the Newtown Community & Cultural Centre for the monthly Crop Swap, where Wellingtonians get together to share and connect over things they have made, grown, baked, or crafted.

Hosted on the second Saturday of each month by a group of dedicated locals, Crop Swap is a place to come to enjoy a koha coffee (sponsored by Peoples Coffee) and engage with a group of people you may have otherwise simply passed by on the street.

If you have an instrument you’d like to play, you are welcome to bring that too.
