Store robbed twice in six days
An Upper Hutt pharmacy has been robbed for the second time in less than a week.
The Queen Street Pharmacy was first robbed last Sunday night and again on Saturday around 11am.
Co-owner Brooke McKay said Saturday’s offender made off in a car with benzodiazepine drugs, similar to that stolen six days earlier.
‘‘Apart from these last two in the last few days, it’s not common at all.’’
Police are making area inquiries to locate the robber, who entered the pharmacy armed with a craft knife.
McKay said she was not in the store during the robbery but her two store attendants seemed quite rattled by the experience.
She said a customer and a painter had also been inside at the time of Saturday’s robbery.
The painter had chased after the robber in his car but was unable to catch up with him.
McKay was unsure if it was the same person for both crimes.
Police are looking for a man described as being in his 40s, about 178cm tall, and was wearing grey tracksuit pants and a grey hoodie with a grey checked scarf on his face.
He is believed to have left the area either riding or pushing a bike.
Anyone who witnessed either incident or who may have any information about the persons involved is urged to get in touch with Wellington police on (04) 381 2000. Information can also be given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
