TO THE POINT

Those of us who have recently renewed our home insurance at approximately twice the cost as last time would be very grateful if the prime minister would add insurance companies to the list of businesses to be investigated for ‘‘fleecing’’ customers.

Many older buses are showing the phrase ‘‘downloading a new bus 23% complete’’. I think the download has frozen and is not updating as it seems stuck on 23 per cent for some time. May I suggest Greater Wellington Regional Council or the bus contractors switch their computers off at the wall, wait 2 minutes and then restart.

As a taxpayer who helps fund TVNZ and watches its 6pm One News, I find it a pleasure viewing in the weekends a solo news reader, be it of either gender. But why, oh why, do we have to put up with male and female twin readers during the week, at an unnecessary twice the salary, when all they do is interchange sentences and look adoringly at each other when the other is speaking. I would be very happy (as I suspect many other viewers would be) to receive the day’s happenings conveyed by one newsreader.

This morning, my copy of The Dominion Post happened to fall open on the full-page ad from Victoria University trying to justify the silly idea to change its names. I did the only thing I could do – got out my magic marker and scrawled ‘‘bulls...’’ across it in big letters.

Re open plan school (Class division, Oct 13), one of my sons experienced open plan, he was lost and never recovered until we took him out of the school (decile 10) and paid for private schooling. When entering the private school he was graded 47th out of 48 (the 48th being mentally challenged). At the end of the year he was 24th.

If it takes $100,000 to get a Chinese candidate considered by the National Party, how many boxes of Speight’s will I need to pay to get a decent, honest, ‘‘good keen Southern man’’ considered? When is a bribe not a bribe –when it’s called a donation to the Nats. I previously voted for them in more than 18 elections. Not again. Dave Cochran, Porirua
