Summer Day

- email: capitalday@dompost.co.nz

This summer, The Dominion Post hit the streets to ask people random questions for our 15 Minutes of Fame project: from your favourite place for coffee, to what do you think of Trump? Today: Anne Kemp Buttar, co-founder of Wonderland and a PR and social media professional, from Porirua.

If money was no object what would you do with your life? Would you work?

If money was no object, I would devote each year to a different charity that is close to my heart – starting with the Cook Islands SPCA on Rarotonga. While on holiday there this year, my husband and I met the team and witnessed their generosity and devotion.

Donald Trump – a self-centred time bomb, or a breath of fresh air in world politics? Personally, I stand for kindness, diversity and inclusion – I love that we live in a time where the world, for the most part, we all have the power to be heard. To me, Donald Trump can be embarrassing, negative and his values do not, in any way, align with what I stand for.

You get to buy one thing – no matter what it costs. What do you buy?

An airplane – I’m originally from the United States of America, so I’d use it to keep my family and friends around the world connected. What is the biggest issue facing your region? And what can be done about it?

I worry about our preparedness for a big earthquake. I’ve had ‘‘top up EQ kit’’ on my to-do list all year. Or maybe it’s just me.

What’s your favourite fun fact to tell people?

Honestly, I don’t have just one fun fact but I love telling people that I’m a published author of contemporary romance books. Another one is that I met my husband, Glen, at a friends’ wedding. Now that friend is my sister-in-law. What’s the best advice you’ve been given? It’s not so much advice as a quote that keeps me going by Martin Luther King Jr. ‘‘Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.’’

Best spot for Sunday brunch?

I love a sunny weekend brunch at ScorchA-Rama – it doesn’t matter if you sit inside or out, it always hits the spot and is one of the most beautiful views in Welly.

What is the most beautiful part of New Zealand in summer and why?

The smiles on everyone’s faces as they come out of hibernation.
