Sri Lanka spinner bags 10
Sri Lanka spinner Malinda Pushpakumara has taken the joint 13th-best figures in a first-class innings, after claiming all 10 wickets in a domestic match yesterday. The 31-year-old, who in November featured in Sri Lanka’s home test series against England, took figures of 10-37 for Colombo Cricket Club to skittle Saracens Sports Club for 113 in their pursuit of 349 to win in Moratuwa. The left-arm orthodox spinner had already taken 6-73 off 29 overs in Saracens’ first innings, then again opened the bowling in the visitors’ second dig, bowling unchanged for 18.4 overs to lead his team to the 235-run win. His haul is the first 10-for in first-class cricket since 2009, when former Pakistan international Zulfiqar Babar claimed 10-143 for Multan against Islamabad. They are also the best first-class figures recorded since 1995. English football star Wayne Rooney has been fined NZ$37 after being arrested in the United States for public intoxication and swearing. Court documents from Loudoun General District Court in Virginia show that Rooney, 33, paid a US$25 fine and US$91 (NZ$135) costs on January 4. That follows confirmation by Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office that Rooney was taken into custody ‘‘on a charge of public intoxication stemming from an arrest by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police’’ on December 16. A police spokesman said: ‘‘He was later released on a personal recognisance bond.’’
