Mugger a real mug

-

Polyana Viana,

UFC star right, used her fighting skills to see off a would-be mugger in Rio de Janeiro. Viana left her attacker a bloodied mess after he tried to steal her mobile phone, claiming he had a gun. The 26-year-old Brazilian was waiting for an Uber ride outside her apartment complex last weekend when the man sat next to her and asked her the time. She replied but saw that he wasn’t going to leave. She became concerned and went to put her mobile phone away and he made his move. ‘‘He said, ‘Give me the phone. Don’t try to react, because I’m armed’. Then he put his hand over [a gun], but I realised it was too soft,’’ she told MMA Junkie. ‘‘He was really close to me. So I thought, ‘If it’s a gun, he won’t have time to draw it.’ So I stood up. I threw two punches and a kick. He fell, then I caught him in a rear-naked choke. Then I sat him down in the same place we were before and said, ‘Now we’ll wait for the police’.’’ White Fern Sophie Devine scored 115 runs in a T20 match yesterday, but she will not be credited with a century. Playing for the Adelaide strikers in the Big Bash against the Hobart Hurricanes in Adelaide, the Wellington opener played a near-perfect paced innings, unwinding late to end on 99 not out off only 53 balls, more than half her side’s total of 189-5. But in an interesting twist, the match went to a super over after the Hurricanes tied the match with a final-ball four. Devine scored 16 not out off three balls in the over, hitting two massive sixes and a four to help her side chase down the Hurricanes’ 13, taking her match run tally to an impressive 115. To be credited with a century, a player must score all their runs in one innings. A makeshift Liverpool team containing three teenagers making their senior debuts was beaten by Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 in the third round of the FA Cup, with a strike by Ruben Neves sealing the win. Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp left star forwards Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino on the bench until the 70th minute.
