New Sony the ultimate tool for vloggers
SONY’S VERSATILE new mirrorless camera, the a6400 goes on sale this weekend for $1649.95, ahead of major upgrades to the full-frame line-up it miniaturises.
The a6400 combines many of the advance technologies from Sony’s a9, a7R III and a7 III models into a compact, lightweight APS-C camera.
It features the world’s fastest autofocus (AF) acquisition of 0.02 seconds, new “Real-time Eye AF” and ”Real-time Tracking” capabilities, high-speed shooting at up to 11 frames per second (fps) with AF/AE tracking, a newgeneration BIONZ X image processing engine, 4K video recording and a 180-degree tiltable LCD touch screen.
Sony calls the a6400 the ultimate tool for all types of creators, from professionals to vloggers.
“By bringing so many of our latest and most advanced technologies from fullframe cameras to a brand new APS-C model, we are giving today’s creators more options than ever to realise their vision,” Neal Manowitz, Sony Electronics’ vice president of Imaging Solutions, says.
The latest version of Sony’s acclaimed Eye AF technology uses artificial intelligence-based object recognition to detect and process eye data in real time, which Sony claims improves accuracy, speed and tracking performance.
In all autofocus modes, the camera automatically detects the eyes of the subject and activates Eye AF with a half press of the shutter button and, when in AF-C or AF-A mode, the preferred eye (left or right) of your subject can be selected as the focus point.
Choices include Auto/Right Eye/Left Eye, while a Switch Right/Left Eye function can be assigned to a custom function as well.
The new technology frees the photographer to focus solely on composition knowing that focus will be tack sharp on the subject’s eye.
Eye AF support for animals will be added mid-year by a system software update.
The a6400 also is a 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) video camera with full pixel readout and no pixel binning.
It collects nearly two-and-a-half times the amount of data required for 4K movies, and then oversamples it to produce footage of exceptional detail and depth.
Upgraded Fast Hybrid AF technology keeps focus fast and stable, so the subject is in constant smooth focus no matter the scene -- even if an object crosses in front of the camera.
This advanced AF and touch focus functionality make the a6400 ideal for vloggers and video creators who create content to uploading online.
Vloggers also will be able to use the tiltable, 3.0-type LCD flip screen, with 921k-dots of resolution, to check and monitor composition on the go.
Over the next few months Sony will upgrade its a9 camera with firmware updates that will add new features and enhance its award-winning autofocus performance and image quality.
There also will be firmware updates for a7R III and a7 III, including Real-time Eye AF performance and interval recording capacities.
