Stylish, edgy feel to seaside stunner

-

TENDERS CLOSE on March 7 for a sunny and spacious Seatoun home with a stylish, vibrant, light-filled interior and a large flat lawn.

The four-bedroom house, at 46 Burnham St, dates to the 1920s but six years ago Katy and Charles Post renovated and extended it into virtually a new home.

‘‘It was a cedar clad box with weird corridors and tiny rooms,’’ Katy says.

‘‘But we bought it because it was in Seatoun, we liked the neighbourhood, it was on the flat and got late sun, and we could see its potential.’’

Their goal was to create a singlelevel family home that was contemporary and fresh, with an easy flow inside and out to capitalise on the 506-square metre section’s aspect and privacy.

Katy’s imprint as an interior designer is evident as soon as you open the door of the 175sqm house and step into the long, high hall that draws you toward the garden at the rear.

The hall contrasts oak floorboards with Kelly Green walls, which Resene customised for Katy, and the natural light that spills from the 4.7m high atrium midway down.

‘‘The main palette is white but most rooms have pops of colour,’’ Katy says.

The main bedroom is to the left of the front door and has a walkthrough wardrobe with fitted shelves and drawers to the elegant, tiled ensuite with underfloor heating, large shower, toilet and two decorative, bespoke glass handbasins.

Three more double-bedrooms, each with built-in wardrobes (and one with a desk), come off the hall, as does the tiled bathroom (shower cabinet, bath, vanity, toilet).

There’s also a stunning office with a built-in desk for at least two people and a wall of shelving and storage.

The kitchen and living and dining areas are open-plan, with multiple sets of doors that open to decking for a sheltered al fresco lifestyle. The landscaping has been cleverly designed to provide a good flat lawn with mature trees and a healthy vegetable garden while also being incredibly low maintenance.

An open shelving unit with cupboards divides the living and dining areas without closing them off while the entertainers’ kitchen includes two Bosch pyrolytic wall ovens, an island with a Corian benchtop and two double DishDrawer dishwashers, a fiveburner gas hob, rangehood and a wall-to-wall tiled splashback with a colourful geometric pattern.

Other features include Brivis gas central heating, a separate laundry with an internal clothesline, a wide linen cupboard with bifolding doors, a single garage with rear door access, two sheds and a walled front courtyard with built-in seating.

‘‘I’ve marketed a number of homes in Seatoun but this one has a real design edge and contemporary flavour,’’ Anji Foster, of Lowe & Co Realty, says.

‘‘It’s likely to be extremely appealing to both family buyers, being a short walk to the school, and those looking to move to the flat from the hills. It is the complete package and a true stand-out.’’

The property has a rateable value of $1.59 million.
