Am I the only person bewildered and bemused by the profile gained by the likely 1 per cent of the population who have had the misfortune to have a mismatch between the gender they are and the gender they identify as? Yes, it is sad, and as a caring nation we should do what we can to address the problem.
However, meantime the 10 per cent of the population who have neuro-diverse conditions like dyslexia have largely been ignored by politicians and policy makers. The result of the public policy omission is poorer educational outcomes, major increases in depression, anxiety and suicide rates, significantly lower national productivity and the costs of so many neuro-diverse Kiwis ending up behind bars.
