Private and peaceful in Island Bay

-

APAUATAHANUI lifestyle property with 4.8208 hectares of paddocks, lawns, gardens, woodlands and bush walks has been auctioned for $300,000 above its rateable value.

The property, at 298A Paekakariki Hill Rd, had a rateable value of $1.08 million and sold for $1.38 million.

Andy Cooling, of Harcourts, says the five-bedroom, four-bathroom house needed vision and a refresh but was big enough – 370 square metres – to easily accommodate larger families.

‘‘It had a huge kitchen/dining area, separate lounge, four-car garaging and a large one-bedroom annex.’’

A BROOKLYN HOME that had been family-owned for 57 years has been auctioned for $120,000 above its rateable value.

The property, at 40 Mills Rd, had a rateable value of $830,000 and sold for $950,000.

‘‘It was set in lovingly cared for native gardens, high on the ridge in Mills Road, and had three bedrooms, one bathroom and a separate studio room,’’ Judy Nicholls, of Bayleys, says.

‘‘The home had been a dream to live in for many years and the open homes attracted good numbers.

‘‘It sold under the hammer and there were happy buyers and sellers all round on the day.’’

The 140-square metre, doublebrick bungalow was built in the 1920s on a 713sqm section with a rustic courtyard, terraced gardens, mature trees and even an old chook house.
