Kevin Marshall (Letters, April 13) asks residents near Wellington Airport to be more tolerant re the night curfew. I live nearby and have no problem with waiving the curfew for the odd late flight.

But has he thought of the masses of staff who have to hang around for that late flight? Airport staff, baggage handlers, police and customs/ immigration, the sniffer dogs/ security/fire service, duty-free shops/car rental companies and taxis, and not forgetting the cleaners. I believe it comes down to cost.

We were on a Virgin flight that had massive delays. The ground staff in Brisbane told us porkies whilst we knew we had no hope. We were dumped in Auckland at 2.30am with our 5-year-old grandson and plenty of other families with youngsters. We sat until 7am and were then flown to Wellington, so have been there and done that!

Michael Wigley (Letters, April 15) says Golriz Ghahraman should be praised for her infamous defence work. He might be right except for the ‘‘I’m having a great time’’ photo of said defence counsel with the genocide inciter. Bernard Jennings, Island Bay

American Attorney-General William Barr tried to whitewash the Mueller report for the White House as he is a stooge for President Trump. But House Speaker and Democrat Nancy Pelosi would not have a bar of it. Moreover, Barr, having sat on a rough picket fence over his indecision, ripped his expensive Amani suit pants when he dismounted, and has had a change of heart and resolved to reinstate almost all of the 400 pages of his report on Mueller’s Russian probe. How could Barr think his sleight of hand could go unnoticed? Brian Collins, Petone
