AKARORI BUNGALOW with character appeal and a renovated kitchen has been auctioned for $170,000 above its rateable value.

The property, at 26 Kano St, had a rateable value of $1.16 million and sold for $1.33 million.

The 208-square metre house was built in the 1920s on a 558sqm section and combined leadlight windows, Carrara ceilings and polished floors with a renovated kitchen, central heating and a Bose system.

Other features included a family room with a working fireplace and expansive shelving, a games room with a pool table, a workshop and a wine cellar.

A BUILDER’S own home in Tawa has been auctioned for $260,000 above its rateable value.

The property, at 129 Woodman Dr, had a rateable value of $1.05 million and sold for $1.31 million.

‘‘It was a fabulous, sunny, entertaine­rs’ home that exceeded the latest building standards and had expansive views,’’ says Micky Limmer, of Harcourts, who marketed the 264sqm house with Marty Ritchie.

Features included multiple living areas, a kitchen with a scullery, and luxuriousl­y tiled bathrooms.

AN ELSDON HOME that hadn’t changed hands in 30 years has been auctioned for $76,000 above its rateable value.

The property, at 33 Kotuku St, had a rateable value of $370,000 and sold for $446,000.

‘‘It was a classic weatherboa­rd delight,’’ Esther Nation, of Harcourts, says.

The 110sqm dwelling was built in 1957 on an 810sqm section with drive-on to a double-garage and ample off-street parking.

It faced northwest, with four bedrooms and two bathrooms, and had subdivisio­n potential, Nation says.

A PAPAKOWHAI home that had been ‘‘lovingly renovated’’ has been auctioned for more than $250,000 above its rateable value.

The property, at 2 Ayr Pl, had a rateable value of $550,000 and sold for $801,500.

‘‘It was a lovingly renovated family home in a quiet cul-de-sac close to public transport and a short walk from schools and kindergart­en,’’ says Marty Ritchie, of Harcourts, who marketed the 180sqm house with Micky Limmer.

It was built in the 1960s on a fenced 587sqm section with a double-garage and had four bedrooms, a ‘‘stunning’’ bathroom, a modern kitchen and a spacious living area that opened to a sunny deck.

AN UPGRADED, fully furnished house on the South Wairarapa coast has been sold for $20,000 above its rateable value.

The property, at 10 Whangaimoa­na Beach Rd, had a 2017 rateable value of $260,000 and sold for $280,000.

‘‘Buyers were attracted to the property because of the panoramic views of the countrysid­e down to the seashore that is just a stroll away,’’ Liz Ryniker, of First National Guardian, Greytown, says.

‘‘It was sold fully furnished with quality chattels.’’

The 68sqm dwelling dated to the 1950s but had been insulated, re-roofed and re-clad in the past 10 years.

It was on a 955sqm section with outbuildin­gs, a caravan and a large garage with a bunkroom.
