Shooting victim critical
A 37-year-old man has been charged after another man was critically injured in a shooting at Waiau Pa, south of Auckland. Police were called to the incident on Wright Rd about 2pm on Sunday. A man was taken to Middlemore Hospital in a critical but stable condition after he was shot. Yesterday, a police spokeswoman said the 37-year-old had been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and unlawful possession on a firearm. ‘‘The latest information we have regarding the victim is that he remains in a critical but stable condition.’’ On Sunday, Detective Inspector Tofilau Faa Va’aelua said police were guarding the scene. ‘‘We are speaking to a number of people in close proximity to the address where this has occurred.’’ The spokeswoman said police could confirm the shooting was not related to another shooting in South Auckland’s Clover Park, which left one person dead. That incident occurred in Darnell Cres, near O¯ tara, about 10.30pm on Saturday. Sunday may have been a quieter night for boy racers in Christchurch but that didn’t stop the arrests. A further three people were arrested on Sunday night and yesterday morning as part of the Aves Invasion event, which started at 9pm on Friday, bringing the total arrests to 13. A police spokeswoman said the three were arrested for varying offences. One will appear court for speeding. Six vehicles were taken off the road for being defective or unsafe, and two people were found to have an excess breath alcohol level. Three people had their licence suspended. Yesterday, police could not confirm how many traffic infringement notices were issued at the weekend. Stuff has asked for clarification. On Saturday, a father and son were arrested at a gas station on Port Hills Rd.
