Woman teacher had sex with teenagers

A former teacher has admitted having sex with two teenagers in the back seat of her car.

The woman in her 30s, who cannot be named, started text messaging a boy aged under 16 in 2017, offering him rides to school and asking him about sport, a police summary of facts said.

They started texting daily and the boy spent most lunchtimes with her. They built up trust, which eventually became ‘‘flirty’’, the summary said.

One lunchtime, the teacher invited the boy to come for a drive. She took him to the Mt Vernon car park, and when the boy asked about his classes, she told him not to worry and said she would fix his attendance record.

She became emotional, got into the back seat with him and performed oral sex on him. She dropped him off near the school and told him not to tell anyone, the summary said.

During another lunchtime, she drove to the A&P Park car park and they had sex in the car. They met again for sex on several occasions, often on a Friday after school while the woman waited to pick up her child.

He believed they were in a relationship. She would say she loved him. The woman would often say she wanted to kill herself, which made the boy feel like he could not break up with her. The relationship lasted a year. She would take explicit photographs while she was in the bath or in bed, and send them to the boy through Snapchat, or video call the boy.

Near the end of last year, he invited another boy to a group chat online with the woman.

The three of them spoke about sexual matters and the next day, she drove them to the Horton Park car park, where they had oral sex. Then they spoke about ‘‘work and school stuff’’, the summary said, and she dropped them off at the gym.

On another occasion, the second boy visited the woman in her classroom, and they started ‘‘play fighting’’, and then kissing. She said they needed to go elsewhere, and told him to meet her down the street.

She drove to the A&P Park car park, where they had oral sex. They continued to meet for oral sex on several occasions.

During the Christmas holidays last year, she had sex with the first boy at Richmond View School car park. He eventually told the woman he wanted to end their relationship but she kept messaging him, telling him that she loved him.

When spoken to by police, the woman declined to comment.

At Blenheim District Court yesterday, the former teacher in Marlborough admitted seven charges of sexual relations with minors and two of sending sexual material to minors.

Judge David Ruth referred the case to restorative justice, where the woman could meet the boys and try to make amends, if the boys were willing.

He ordered a pre-sentencing report and continued name suppression.

The woman was convicted and issued a first strike warning. She was remanded on bail for sentencing on December 17.

He wanted to end their relationship but she kept messaging him.
