Recognition for NZ’s fastest-growing firms
Smart Membrane Solutions has won the top honour at the Deloitte Fast 50 awards, which ranks the country’s fastest-growing businesses.
The Canterbury firm specialises in membrane filtration for the dairy industry, and had 1295 per cent revenue growth during the past three years. Managing director Brent Marshall said ‘‘it’s taken a long time to get to a place where we’re growing this fast. Winning top spot on the Deloitte Fast 50 index is recognition of what we’ve done.’’
Other businesses in the top five were restaurant food delivery service Delivereasy (1280 per cent growth), digital commerce agency Overdose Digital (1188 per cent), international beauty brand Ethique (999 per cent), and nutritional formula manufacturer Blue River Dairy LP (968 per cent).
The Fast 50 index, now in its 19th year, is for New Zealand-registered companies that have been in business for at least three years.
Also among the quickest-growing Kiwi businesses was the Shakti Mat, an acupressure mat. Misty Cove Wines was back on the index for a second year in a row as was Raglan Coconut Yoghurt. Last year’s winner, Electric Kiwi, also made a return appearance.
Food businesses were well represented, with fresh meat company The Meat Box on the list along with the Behemoth Brewing Company.
Deloitte Private partner Bill Hale said the index gave a snapshot of successful Kiwi businesses growing the New Zealand economy. ‘‘This success is hard won and takes talent, innovation and impeccable strategy,’’ Hale said.
‘‘This year’s indexed businesses come from across the country, operate in a variety of industries . . . Yet, they are united by their knack for success.’’
Nappy-maker Rascal + Friends was named 2019 National Rising Star, which recognises businesses too young to qualify for the Fast 50 index but that are growing at an outstanding rate.
Leading supplement brand, Go Healthy (561 per cent) topped the 2019 Master of Growth Index, which ranks the 20 fastest-growing mature businesses achieving long-term sustained growth.
