Kapiti Coast Funeral Home: Celebrating life for 27 years

-

Death might be a part of life, but talking about it isn’t always the easiest discussion to have.

‘‘Often when the ‘D’ word is mentioned, people either turn and run for cover or the opposite, the questions flow,’’ says Andrew Malcolm of Kapiti Coast Funeral Home.

‘‘I love questions, as my passion is sharing how we walk with people through difficult times. It is these difficult times that we, funeral directors, can make a difference with genuine, helpful, friendly and loving support.’’

Since Andrew and Merryn Malcolm purchased the funeral home back in 1992 they have seen and been part of many changes, from private intimate farewells to very personalised funerals with flair. To achieve both ends of the spectrum they have had to change their business model, and this year were recognised with the Kapiti and Horowhenua Medium Business of the year.

An example of this is the change to more than 80 per cent cremation in the Kapiti district and as a response they built their own crematorium. But not just any crematorium, a beautiful facility with a small 35 seat chapel in the cemetery grounds in Valley Road, Paraparaumu, that looks down the valley with an amazing vista of the ocean and the end of Kapiti Island.

They have also acquired the

Kapiti Old Mill building,

Whether you have a small group or a crowd, all are catered for either at the funeral home lounge with the reception lounge there or the Kapiti Old Mill, a building they acquired on the opposite corner from the funeral home, with another smaller function/reception facility that serves the crematorium for after funeral functions. The catering manager also has a bar manager’s licence so a glass of something nice can also be acquired!

Environmental friendly funerals are factored in. Eco Funerals are offered here and the team have also taken steps to ensure all their caskets are variations of sustainable NZ pine – including the polished stained caskets, which are made with water-based nontoxic stains and resins.

From the funeral to the free bereavement support offered after, Kapiti Coast Funeral Home is there to help you through the journey.

Located at 9-11 Hinemoa Street, Paraparaumu. Phone (04) 298 5168 or visit www. kapiticoastfuneralhome.co.nz/ for more information.
